A solid year / Annual survey shows health systems posted strong revenue and earnings, but expenses are also rising

Not-for-profit healthcare systems on average showed a strong financial improvement in 2010, based on aggressive cost-control efforts and gains in revenue from patient care and investments. For-profit hospital operators also made strides on the operations side, even while they took on far more expenses related to uncompensated care and continued acquisition activity compared with their tax-exempt peers.
