City awards cemetery services bid

The Cheboygan City Council awarded a bid Tuesday to provide maintenance and interments at Pinehill Cemetery. Gracie Larson Jr. was awarded the three-year agreement for independent contracted services with the low bid of $30,000 a year. Other bids included Rivertown Lawn Services, Inc., which submitted a bid of $33,000 a year; Bruce R. Socha, who submitted a bid of $33,948 a year; Brian Wallace, who submitted a bid of $36,500 a year; Austin Blaskowski/Country Cleaning, who submitted a bid of $39,000 a year; B&M Lawn Care, which submitted a bid of $39,000 the first year, $41,000 the second year and $42,500 the third year; and Lofgren Enterprises, Inc., which submitted a bid of $46,500 a year…. He said the AFSCME union wanted the city to make it a full-time, permanent job to be filled by a city employee, but said it would cost between $65,000 to $70,000 to fund the position….
