Flint schools outsources food service to Magic Johnson’s company

The Flint School District outsourced its food service to a company that NBA Hall-of-Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson partly owns. The board of education approved the $3.36 million contact with Sodexo MAGIC at its meeting on Wednesday, June 18. Johnson owns 51 percent of the Maryland-based company. The board outsourced its food service as part of moves to trim its $10.4 million deficit. Earlier this month the food service employees were part of the pink-slipping of 250 staffers that is expected to save the district $5 million. Sodexo MAGIC will take over food service July 1….
