States To Get Bonuses If They Increase Enrollment Of Kids In Medicaid

For decades, state officials have sought to enroll the 4.1 million to 6 million uninsured children who are eligible for Medicaid, but remain uncovered. Now states have even more reason to find and enroll those kids: the recently passed Children’s Health Insurance Program Authorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA) provides cash bonuses to states that:
• significantly increase the enrollment in Medicaid of eligible children; and
• adopt measures to streamline enrollment and renewal of children in both Medicaid and CHIP.
