2009 Immigration-Related Bills and Resolutions in the States (January-March 2009)

As Congress considers taking up comprehensive immigration reform later this year, states are already leading the way.

State legislatures continue to debate immigration in a range of policy arenas, from benefits to law enforcement and from education to employment. In the first quarter of 2009, state legislatures in all 50 states introduced 1,040 bills and resolutions relating to immigrants, refugees, migrants and seasonal workers. Twenty-five states have enacted 35 laws and adopted 40 resolutions.
