How Much Do Older Workers Value Health Insurance?

Source: Leora Friedberg, Wei Sun, and Anthony Webb, Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, Issue in Brief # 8-9, 2008

The brief’s key findings are:
• Not surprisingly, older workers with health insurance value coverage much more than workers without coverage.
• But those without coverage do place some value on obtaining coverage – approximately $3,500 for the median respondent.
This finding suggests that workers without insurance might buy coverage if offered a moderate subsidy.
